At Stellenbosch Hospice, we believe that care goes beyond medicine. It begins with awareness, grows through compassion, and finds power in action. September is a time when South Africa shines a light on three critical health challenges: Cervical Cancer, Childhood Cancer, and Heart Disease. Each deeply affects the lives of individuals, families, and our broader community.
This month is not only about recognising these conditions but also about standing together with those who face them. At Stellenbosch Hospice, we walk alongside patients and their loved ones through every stage of their journey. Whether it’s a child in treatment, a mother bravely battling cervical cancer or an elder managing heart disease, our role is to offer care that is grounded in dignity, respect, and hope.
Cervical Cancer Awareness
Cervical cancer is largely preventable through vaccination and early screening. Yet, many women are still diagnosed too late. We advocate for regular Pap smears and HPV vaccination, especially in underserved communities where awareness is low and access to healthcare is limited. Early detection saves lives, and with your support, we can help more women receive the care they need.
Childhood Cancer Awareness
Children deserve the chance to grow, dream, and thrive. Yet, for families affected by childhood cancer, life is often marked by uncertainty and fear. We honour the strength of these young warriors and the resilience of their caregivers. Through palliative care and emotional support, we help bring comfort, clarity, and compassion during the most challenging times.
Heart Awareness Month
Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in South Africa. Prevention through healthy living and regular check-ups is key, but for those already living with heart conditions, support is essential. At Stellenbosch Hospice, we assist patients in managing their symptoms while maintaining quality of life, and we extend our care to families navigating the emotional weight of chronic illness.
How You Can Help
This September, we invite you to:
- Raise Awareness: Share information, stories, and resources in your community.
- Encourage Early Detection: Speak to loved ones about regular check-ups and screenings.
- Support Compassionate Care: Volunteer, donate, or partner with us in providing dignity-filled care to those who need it most.

At Stellenbosch Hospice, we are more than a place, we are a presence. One that brings light in times of darkness, hope in times of hardship, and love when it is needed most. Endless care. Always.
Let this September be a reminder that when we come together with purpose, we can make a real difference.
